ACID2010 is over. Wasn't a very happy start and a very happy ending altogether. We were photographers for the event. Yep, our job was to take photos. But the bottom line is that, all of us are volunteers. By volunteering is to take the initiative. By volunteering is wanting to take the initiative to make everyone's lives better. Perhaps they thought that we were disinterested in the event and gave us very little things to do, and we ended up slacking. But perhaps we just didn't take the initiative to find out what needs to be done. I didn't take the initiative - that's why we ended up like that. The HC, PJ and CJ people did almost everything for us. HCI is not even home ground to PJ and CJ, yet they could do so much - why couldn't we? I guess I didn't raise it up since I thought it would definitely be tossed aside as being "atrocious" and being "too enthusiastic" and "we're here as photographers." I guess the picture of "doing it for the greater good" is not there. The idea is not to "get credit" because the entire event is based on the spirit of volunteerism. "Getting credit" just doesn't fit in. I understand how Ray felt when he saw what he saw and how the photographers felt when they got pissed at whatever they got pissed at. The middleman? As usual, be the nice guy. But as the Yangs have put it, you should have the moral courage to do the right things right - 'Victorians do things with style.' I know they don't need 12 photographers. But they're a volunteer organisation. They don't want to reject people. They try to give everyone a job. We definitely took enough photos, nearly 9GB including Day 0 photos. Thanks for coming to ACID. Sorry for not giving everyone a good time. |
