Was watching A Walk to Remember just before going to VS. You should totally watch it (after your exams) and listen to Mandy Moore's version of Someday You'll Know. Not bad for a 2002 movie. It's damn sad and touching. Reinforced to me my idea of 'Do what you love and love what you do; or do it for the people you love.' And it has really linked up the bazillion thoughts running through my mind. So here's one chunk of it. Nostalgia. Have been making trips back to VS recently to study for Promos. Just on the bus home, I was recalling the first NSP in 2007. The NSP teacher i/c for the night would pull out a portable speaker and mike, announcing the start/end of NSP, asking people to quieten down whenever it gets too noisy. The canteen would be flooded with motivated Sec 4s, and a few Sec 3s joining their seniors in the final sprint. I think I was the only Sec 2 there then. I was there not to mug, but I just didn't feel like going home. HAHA. Yea, then there would be this big round table where Sec 4 IT Clubbers would quickly choppe just before NSP starts, and the one whole big group of us would gather around it and start mugging. For me, I was just doing either homework or some nonsense shit. I remember JJ mugging with us for his Midyears and Promos in his MJ uniform, and Safi practicing English summary. I remember NCC (Noodle Cup Club)***, when we bought cup noodles from the then canteen vendor when VSPSG didn't provide food for the night. And of course, who could forget. VSPSG, the teachers, and the red and black shirts. I love the PSG, like totally. They would, almost everyday, bring food for the Sec 4s as a sign of their support. And there were always leftovers... so we kope them. Haha. Free dinners! Even when they don't provide dinners, they provide some nice snacks, like fruits and snacks. The teachers would 'patrol' the canteen, offering their relentless help to everyone, not only to the Sec 4s but really ANYONE else as well. The red and black shirts would study at the canteen table next to the PSB room or MC room, with one of them stationed at the food station just outside the room. Yea, the always-restocked supply of Milo and Khong Guan biscuits. In 2008, NSP for me was bad. Won't delve into details. And then it was 'O' Level year in 2009. NSP in its third year didn't felt that grand compared to 2007. But still it's memorable. It's only now I begin to understand that 'O' Levels became an avenue for Victorians to bond, even as an entire batch (at least, with Mr Low around... best principal ever). 4C would choppe two long tables and mug together, occasionally/at the same time doing retarded shit (e.g. disturbing PC). Haha. Good times. And now, mugging for Promos in VS totally made me remember and miss those NSP days. But it isn't the same anymore. The compulsory NSP people now study in the library. Supply of Milo and biscuits are only given during a newly designated 15min break slot. And there are many, many, many, new teachers around that replaced the many, many, many teachers that left VS. Victoria is bleeding, I think. And I don't think the bleeding is about to stop. Heard Mr Low and a few more prominent teachers are leaving too. Hope it's just rumours for some of them. At one point in our lives, we would have to let go of IT Club, and of VS. But it looks like letting it go will be difficult. At the same time it's going to be even harder to hold on to this past. For now, I'll continue to try and hold on, until the day comes when I can no longer do so... and I'll try to prolong this duration as much as possible. -------- *** Oh Noodle Cup Club. One of the best parts of 2006 and 2007 IT Club. After training, General Meetings, before NSP or any activity, the upper sec would bring whoever that's left down to the canteen for a Noodle Cup Club session. HAHA. Ryan: Okay people. We are not IT Club. We are Noodle Cup Club. So we are having a meeting now :D NCC died out in 2008 when the class of 2007 graduated ): --------- The mosque, 1 year after the fire. --------- The song and the movie come together just too damn well. Damn sad, damn touching, totally. (Unofficial) music video Lyrics Storyline |
